Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Performa 475
RAM: 12meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: System 7.6

Description:
Okay...here's the deal. First off...history lesson. I learned about you guys through a friends of mine, they said you were good, so here I am. I installed 7.6 into the Performa computer, and ever since, it's been giving me hell back. My CD-ROM driver is messed up, when I insert a CD it reads it as five CD's and displays 5 CD icons on the desktop. That's not the problem. The Internet Access FreePPP module was working funny, it wouldn't connect unles we added an IP address to a part of the TCP/IP and restarted. And NO, that isn't the problem either. I finally gave up on the defective system and rebooted form the disk that Apple supplied me with. So, I ran it. I backed up my files. I attempted to erase the Hard Drive. Erasing Disk...Verifying Format...Creating Directory...FREEZE. And so it did. My computer froze. During an initialization. So here I am. My computer doesn't read my Hard Drive, and I have tried EVERYTHING. I've heard you guys are great. Help Me!

How did you attempt to erase the hard drive? Have you tried using the HD SC setup program on apple's disk tools disk? This scans the SCSI bus and *should* pickup your hard drive. Then you can reinitialize it.

As for 7.6, it sucks, 7.6.1 was better, but it still sucked, I would either use 7.5.5, or bump up the ram to 36megs (should cost about $100) and use OS8.
