Description:
I have an HPLJ Series II at home. It comes ok, goes thru its self diagnosis, and goes to a ready condition. But when I try to print to it, the computer tells me that there is no printer connected. I have tried with two different computers. I am using Win95. It used to work. And I can also print out a test page from the internal test.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Larry, thanks for writing.

The first thing you want to do is to make sure the right printer is selected in the PRINTERS folder. You can try removing it and adding it again using the latest drivers which you can find at http://www.windrivers.com

Then buy a new printer cable, a bi-directional one (these are about $12 I think) and try it again. Not working? Take the printer AND cable to another computer and try it there. If the printer still doesn't work, then the problem is with the printer and you should call HP for assistance in having it checked out.

If it works on the other computer then go back to your computer and into the BIOS, make sure the parallel port (LPT1) is set to EPP (Bi-directional) - right click on MY COMPUTER, select PROPERTIES, DEVICE MANAGER and look at the LPT1 port, make sure there are no conflicts.
