Knowledge Level: Beginner
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: APPLE
Model: iMac
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8.5.1
Description:
My iMac is constantly crashing. What will happen is that I will click on a web site or open a dialog box or pull-down menu, and a little "I am busy" spinning disk will appear. From that point on, the only thing I can do is move the mouse pointer (now a spinning disk) around. Nothing else works. The clock doesn't update, no menus can be accessed, no open programs can be used. Nothing. I have to believe that it is still running because of the mouse, but I am too new to MacOS to say for certain. Everything I try does not work.
I was told that the new iMacs with OS 8.5.1 were practically crash-proof, but my iMac is constantly crashing! I wouldn't mind that so much if I could just restart it with a button combination or by pushing either the keyboard or main power button, but neither of those methods work! I have to physically pull the power cord out of the wall!
I don't know what to do. It typically happens when I am connected to the internet, but it has also happened at other times. It normally happens once per day.
Thanks,
David Stender
