HI,
can you help me, i had to force my iMac to shut down, and since then i cannot start up my Mac.
It gets to the grey screen with the apple but goes no further. I tried to reset my PRam, and that didn't work, then also, tried to do a disk utility with my installation discs, but i got as far as the disk utility menu and when i went to click on first aid, it went to search for the disks - i watched the bar go across the screen as the message said 'looking for discs' and it stayed like that for a good hour, before i gave up.

Have you any suggestions of what else i can try?

I would appreciate any help. I desperately don't want to loose my files on my hard drive so wantto try anything that may work without having to reformat my hard drive.

Please help,

Abi

Hi Abi

I would suggest resetting the PMU chip. You would do this by pressing a tiny button on the Logic Board, which means you have to open the machine up and get to the Logic Board;

1-Disconnect the power cord.

2. Press the PMU reset switch (S1) once on the logic board and then proceed to step 3. Do NOT press the PMU reset switch a second time because it could crash the PMU chip.

3. WAIT ten seconds before connecting the power cord and powering the computer on
