TICKET ARCHIVE -> Imac Won't Sleep

Recently my iMac decided to stop sleeping. Whenever it goes to sleep, whether automatically or by explicit instruction, it always wakes itself up within 30 seconds. Waking up on ring or network administrator access are both off. I think it's something that's installed in the system, because it happens whether or not I am logged in. In fact, it happens even before I log in the first time.

Note: I asked about this before the server software was changed, but it was still unresolved then and I just now have the time to get back to it.

Waking up immediately after going to sleep can be caused by external hardware. Try disconnecting anything plugged into the iMac, leaving only the mouse and keyboard. Be sure that any USB hubs are disconnected. Try to sleep.
If this makes no difference, you can open your console, and look through the logs, I think the system log should show evidence that the system goes to sleep. Events are listed by time, so look at approximately the time of sleep, then wake. You should be able to see what caused the wakeup. Come back here with what you find, even if you don't quite understand what you see. You can copy a few lines of events around that time, and paste them in your post if you need to.

Veddy interesting. I had no idea a simple USB hub could wreak such havoc. As soon as I unplugged the Macally hub I recently added everything was back to normal.

Should the hub be acting like this? The other hub I have installed didn't create any problems, it's just this Macally iHub Jr. Could it be defective?

Thanks very much for solving this.

Did your hub come with an external power connection? This is something that can help simply by attaching that external power adapter (not always needed)

After checking at the Macally web site, the iHub Jr. does not seem to come with an external power adapter, which could be your problem. It's not usually needed, and the hub is powered through the USB bus. Some devices are not going to have enough power through the bus and should be used with a self-powered USB hub.
There is an iHub Jr. 2.0 that does come with a power adapter, but doesn't seem to be available (yet) in the US. I saw it listed with www.macally.com.au web site.
OR, purchase a USB hub that includes a power adapter. (most do, and most USB hubs that you will find will work on a Mac)

Ah, sorry! I do have the iHub Jr 2.0, with the power adapter. I plugged it in when I installed, hoping to avoid USB problems. So it always had power, unless the adapter is defective. Come to think of it, that might explain why the lights never come on either.

Yes, in this case, lights would be a Good Thing!

Hope you have good luck in getting a replacement...
