Description:
When installing software and/or a game I receive the following message: Installation on the active startup disk "Hard Disk" can't take place while other applications are running. Click continue to automatically quit all other running applications. Click cancel to leave your disk untouched. I click continue and receive this message: Installation on the active startup disk "Hard Disk" cannot take place while another application is running. Please quit HP Background and try again.
No other applications are running, Does HP refer to my printer which is a Hewlett Packard? Background Printing is not on. Please help. Thanks

Dear Wendy,
Check inside your Extensions and your Startup Items folders in your System Folder for the HP Backgrounder application and move it to the Extensions (Disabled) folder. Though background printing is not on, some HP printers utilize this faceless background application to monitor printer functions. Removing it should not inhibit printer function and will allow you to install software without error.
