KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: Combination
COMPUTER TYPE: dell
MODEL: 400 xps
RAM: 65+
OS VERSION: Windows 98
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

two symptoms:
1. when in IE 4.O and i attempt to download a graphic, it won't allow me to download it. then i will hot the "back"
button and an explorer message pops up saying it's a kernel 32 dll problem. once i close this error message, IE 4.0
application goes away and i must restart 4.0.

2. i can be using another application (e.g. Cool 3d) and the error message will pop up (kernel 32). this time, i can slide the message off to the side of the monitor window and i can still work within the application. i can not click the error message to close though.

if i reinstall windows 98, does it wipe out all of my new software that i installed (e.g. HP printer etc..) or does it just overwrite windows? what can i do to get this kernel 32 problem resolved? thank you !!

Hello Jan
Here's my suggestion

Working has a tech support i have encountered a few kernel error's myself.
try this
a-
If you have access to another computer with the same os
you could try to overwrite the kernel file with the one copied from the computer you have access ...basicaly a simple overwritting of the file.
But beware
1-os has to be same version
2-same date and size
(type ver at the dos prompt and you will have the version)

b-conflicting program may result in this error(experiment by removing and testing)

C-SCANDISK,DEFRAG.......

GOOD LUCK AND KEEP ME INFORM.

Yves
