Lately, my mac mini won't shut down.

I go under the apple (top left) and say shut down, it goes white, and then nothing happens.

What's wrong?

Is there any difference if you logout first, and then shut down?
Have you tried repairing disk permissions?
Can you restart normally?
Can you put the mini to sleep?

I don't have my computer set up to log in and log out.
I don't know how to do "repairing diskpermissions"
When I'm trying to shut down the computer, it seems to get hung up and I can't restart or put mini to sleep?

What's next?

first, To Repair permissions - Go to your Applications/Utilities folder, and open the Disk Utility that you find there. When this opens, click on the line with the name of your hard drive, and the click the Repair Disk Permission button. This will take a few minutes. Quit the Utility when this is complete.
Your Mac always logs in, but usually is set to login automatically. If you go to the Apple Menu (the top left corner) You will see the bottom item is Logout with your user name. You can choose logout, and then agree to logout (the computer will ask!), then wait a few seconds, and you get to a login screen, where you can choose to sleep, or shutdown or restart. You can also click on your user name, and then enter your admin password (the one you need when you install most software), and click the login button, and in a few seconds, you're back!
Back at the login screen, you can choose sleep or shutdown, and this is where I want to you try a shutdown, to see if that completes. Watch the power light on the front of the Mac mini, to see it that light goes out. (The Mac is completely off when that light goes out.) If the monitor stays white even then, your monitor has the problem, not the mini.
I predict that you will be working better now, and the Mac mini will behave itself. If no change, come back here, and we'll try something else.
