I just attempted to update 10.4.1 to 10.4.2 and after restart the screen went blue, the fans went wild and nothing after that. I restarted in single user mode and attempted fsck -f repair.
After numerous system appears ok messages and further attempts, the reboot and exit commands result in the same blue screen. Is there anything I can do?? Can I revert to 10.4.1??? How????

Hello, My Name is Max.

I'll be assisting you with this issue.
I would like to know if you have the original copy of Tiger 10.4.1? Or did you buy a computer with tiger pre-installed.
Please reply ASAP so we can try and have this problem worked out as quickly as we can.

Thank you,
macosx support team.

Place the CD in the drive, and hold down the D key as it boots up. Then it will boot from the disk. from there, you can re-install tiger on the computer, which will be one of the options. Choose not to erase the hard drive, just to install it over the old OS. That should fix your problem.
Have a nice day,

Try Re-Booting while holding down command-option-d, and then see what happens. Alternatively, you could hold down c as it boots up, which will give you the option to do a re-install, but that doesn't always work. i will put this ticket back into the pool and see if anyone else might be able to help you.
Have a nice day,

rick,

here's a couple things to try:

Get the DVD in your drive, start-up holding down the option key. If it works it should bring you to a screen where you can choose a start-up disk whether it's Your HD, Installer or Hardware Test. If you can get that far try selecting the Installer and go from there.

You can try the old PRAM trick - hold down 4 keys (Apple-Option-P-R) wait to hear 3-4 startup chimes and let go of all keys. Might do the trick.

If none of those things seem to work try starting up in Verbose mode holding down the Apple-V keys. this will take you through the startup process via the underlying UNIX layer. Once the system hangs up you should be able to read and see where it's hanging.

Hope some of this helps!

Thanks

Let us know how it goes, if none of that works you could try this.

On startup, hold down the "T" key. This will boot the computer into target disk mode. Connect this computer to a working computer that has been started up via a firewire cable. Once it is started you can use the install disks on the working computer to re-install the software onto the bad computer.

Thanks,
Paul Fletcher
