I have a cable modem connected to a NETGEAR WGR614 v8 router and Dell computer. A second DEll computer has a wirless card. Both can access the internet just fine. My latest computer, an iMAC OS X version 10.4, will not connect to my network therefore I have no internet connection. I have used diagnostics and assistant on the MAC to no avail. The final response always says that everything is working properly but the connection failed. How to remedy this? Thanks.

I have that same router.
You didn't say if you're trying to connect via ethernet or wireless. If wireless, you didn't say if you're using WEP or WPA password security.

Please tell me these things, plus the exact settings you try in the Network Preferences pane.

Sometimes my router refuses to give out IP addresses. I reset the router (power plug out for 15 secs, then back in), then I wait 2 mins and restart the Mac and it works.

I connect via wireless. I have WPA password security.
I also tried unplugging the router, waiting and plugging in again to see if it made any difference. It didn't. I did the same with the modem. No change. Also turned everything off as described by NETGEAR and turned all back on again in the proper sequence and it didn't help.
My sister had this computer before me and it connected via wireless without any trouble. She had a linksys router and this MAC grabbed the connection without fail.
Right now, my iMAC gives green lights for the six categories in the Network Status pane. And it says that the computer's internet connection appears to be operating normally. However, when I try to connect to my network called Wicked, it fails to connect.
On the network configure pane, the following is showing:
Location: Automatic
Show: Airport
"Airport" is highlighted in the next bar.
Airport ID: 00:19:e3:0d:9c:cf
By default, join: Preferred Networks
In the box is "Wicked" for network name and "WPA Personal" for security.
OMG! It works! As I was answering these questions I deleted the "old" networks and added my Wicked, hit apply now and all seems to be great. Maybe it just needed to see Wicked in the preference box. This is great. Thanks for responding to my question...somehow your reply put me on the right track. Thank you!
