Knowledge Level: Beginner

Problem: Software
Computer Type: apple
Model: performa 6115cd
RAM: 48meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: System 7.5

Description:
I have attempted to install and use the "apple system profiller" software on the march 98 machome cd and have problems. I have tried to open the program with no success and the result is a dialog box stating the application program that created it could not be found... and/or the appropriate extensions could not be found. I also have tried to take the file to the trash with no success as it supposedly is locked although the "get info" box is open and not locked. I assume that there is something missing but I am not experienced enough to find it. The folder that the file is in is the applications folder of the harddrive. I also have tried to locate info with the find command with no success.

Hi Dennis,

The copy of Apple System Profiler you have is probably corrupt. You can download a more recent copy for free from:

ftp://ftp.info.apple.com/Apple.Suppo...stem_Profiler/

Download the file called: Apple_Sys_Profiler_1.3.2.img.bin

After you download it, you'll need to decode it. Stuffit Expander can do this for you. Drop the file onto Stuffit Expander, if it doesn't decode automatically.

Next, you'll need to download Disk Copy 6.3. This is the application that will let you open the file: Apple Sys Profiler 1.3.2.img

You can get Disk Copy 6.3 from:

ftp://ftp.info.apple.com/Apple.Suppo...ies/Disk_Copy/

Download the file: Disk_Copy_6.3.smi.bin

You need to decode this file too. Once decoded, double click it. It is a Self Mounting Image (smi). An "image" (img) is like a virtual-disk.

Once you double click it and it mounts the image, you can drag Apple System Profiler onto Disk Copy 6.3 (or just double click Apple System Profiler) and it should open the Apple System Profiler disk. Double click the disk, and open Apple System Profile.

Hope this helps, thanks for using No Wonder!
