I had an OS X Server that went down and after working with Apple support it was determined to reformat the hard drive and reload OS X server (using OS X version 3.0). After resetting up the server, I decided to hold the user directories on a separate volume (the idea that in the future if the serve runs into problems and needs to be reloaded from scratch that it will be easier manipulating user directories. After set up and getting the users home directories pointed to the new location (afp:chantsserver.local.ordps.org/Volumes/UserData_HD/Users/), I verified that users could manually mount their directory. That seems to work ok, access is as it should be. However for my MManager clients, when I log a user in, the response is an error message that says the documents can not be accessed due to not being authoried to access the directory. I thinking that there is a permissions problem for MManager, but I am at a lost as to what process to use to fix it. Anyone have an idea if this is an appropriate question?
Yes Dave I maintained the user ids and reestablished the privileges to the directories. I found a solution that works and maybe this is the only one, I am not sure. I moved the user directories back into the volume that the OS X Server and Macintosh Manager server used (My thought was that the MManager and user directories had to be on the same volume). After making sure the home diretories of the users in OS X pointed to the new directory location and verifying that the permissions were correct, MManager clients could access the directories for the users. Therefore all is working as it should at this point. Will be upgrading at the end of the school year to Tiger and MManager will become a moot point.
Thanks Dave for your response. Paul
