Since I upgraded to Tiger 10.4, I have not been able to send emails. When I go to "send" nothing happens. I have talked with an advanced specialist at Apple for over two hours and have done all the usual things, creating new library, preferences, deleting caches, etc. When I log out of my user name and log in as another user, I have not problem. I'm wondering if there is any thing else to try other than reinstalling or a clean install.

Well unless your ISP blocked port 25 (if you are using .Mac or another email server besides AOL)
I cant see anything else working for you,
Tell me what ISP provider you have and who your Email provider is.
Not to worry well get this checked out!
cheers

Betsy,
I have found a few people who have upgraded to Tiger and have not beeen able to send Mail
You need to perform a reinstall of Tiger but this time perform an archive and install
I will give any needed guidance when you deem it necessary

My internet service provider is Bell South and my email provider is earthlink. I have been talkking to an advanced specialist thru apple care and apparently their engineers are looking into the problem. I have Tiger installed on my G4 dual processorer and have no problem senting and receiving mail. It's just with my Powerbook G 4. I can send mail if I log in under another name.

Ok that means that something is corrupt in your library
But i wont go any further if they have an Apple person working on it
Unless you want my help
If not let me know and I will close the ticket ^__^
Thanks for using Mac OS X.com

The problem has been solved by deleting the cache on the harddrive. Why this wasn't done before, I don't know. I am able to send mail now.

just for my reference, where was this cache located?
Thanks

The cache was the hard drive. Thanks for your help.

pardon?
I am sorry but how can the "entire" hard drive be holding a cache for Mail?
Wasnt there a specific folder? or was it your Library folder in your home directory?
Let me know when u have time

it's the caches folder in the library on the hard drive. When I pulled it out on the desk top and restarted the computer the problem was solved. Hope this answers your question.
