Knowledge Level: Beginner
Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Macintosh
Model: performa 450
RAM: 4meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: System 7.x

Description:
Dear Sirs,
I'm really new to the Mac world, but I love it already!
I picked up an old performa 450 and I'm so excited. It's so much easier than the other "also old" IBM 386 16 MHZ that just gave-up-the-ghost. Anyway to get to the point, My Mother just ordered some more RAM memory for me and I have no local repair facility nearby to install it for me, besides I can't really afford to pay someone to install it anyway. Any pointers or special instructions you can help with will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you & May GOD bless you and make HIS face to shine upon you. For such selfless public support.
Sincerely,
Michael Bryant

Dear Michael,

Installing RAM in a Performa 450 is pretty easy. Unplug all connectors and power cords from the machine and turn it so its rear panel faces you. Remove the screw at the top middle of the rear panel, then snap up the two tabs on the plastic casing. The whole casing lifts up and slides off as one piece (push it forward). You will see a slot in the middle left of the logic board. Insert the RAM at a slight angle then push it gently but firmly into an upright position, so that it snaps into the little metal clips alongside the slot. Make sure you do not touch anything except the edges of the memory, and by all means avoid touching the copper connectors.

Good luck with your upgrade.
