PROBLEM: Hardware
COMPUTER TYPE: DELL?US Robotics
MODEL: Pentium II / 400 MHz
RAM: 65+
OS VERSION: Windows 98

DESCRIPTION:

Hello:
I have just purchased a new Dell PC with a US Robotics
"56K US Robotics V.90 Data/Fax & Voice Hardware Modem"
preinstalled.

I would like very much to have it arranged such that any incoming calls (which are more important to me than being connected to the web) dissconnect me from the web so that I can take the call. I don't mind re-connecting after the call, but would hate to miss the call(s).

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Thank you very much for your time and trouble,
Bob Rose

Hi Bob...Welcome to No Wonder.

I'm sorry to say but it is not possible to do that. If you have just one phone line and you are connected to the internet, when someone calls you, they will get a busy signal.

There are options however. Alot of phone companies offer an answering service (like an answering machine) to record messages when you are online. There are other options available depending on the phone company. Best thing to do is give your phone company a quick call and ask them what type of services they offer to people who use the internet with only one phone line.

There are software programs that will let you know if people are trying to call you and give you the option of taking their call, calling them back, etc. For a look at one, go to http://www.internetcallmanager.com/

Hope this helps,
Pete
