Description:
I want to buy a server to set up a lan at work. I also want to somehow connect two modems to the server (each modem with its own phone line) and then set it up so that when a networked computer attempts to fax out, it searches for an available modem on the server. If one modem is in use, it will use the other modem. Please let me know what software and hardware I must set up, and how I should do this.

Tim,

You are looking for a simple terminal server to do what you
want. A Terminal Server will have serial ports to which you
connect your modems, and then you configure a "rotary pool"
that makes the ports act logically as one - just request a
modem, and you get the next available. Livingston makes
some inexpensive TSs, you should check their web site out
to see if they have what you need.

Good luck,

Ralph Becker
