Description:
I recently connected my computer to a local internet server. The internal modem in my PowerMac 4400/200 is a 33600 bps. Howerver, I can only connect at 28800 bps.
I selected GeoPort/Express Modem in my Control Panel, then I try to find a way to select the speed of my modem but could not find a way to do that via my preference setting.
My question is, can I select a faster speed for my modem, or is it preset by my modem selection.
I want to know if the problem is located in computer setting before calling my local server and asking them why I cannot connect faster than 28800 bps.
Thank for your help.
P.S. Love your magazine.

Your modem will try and connect at the fastest speeds but do to certain conditions, like phone lines, it sometimes will run at a lower speed. If the modem didnt adjust itself to a lower speed it would probably disconnect on you. I have the same problem and found out it was my phone line. I plan on going to ISDN digital soon. You might look into it in your area. Its a little more expensive but your connection will fly. :-)
