I have an iMac G5 running OSX and started having this problem yesterday. I have not been able to find mention of this anywhere else.
At random, it seems like either the up arrow key is stuck or the mouse is scrolling up. The way it looks is when I open a pull down menu the highlighted menu item starts at the bottom of the pulldown list and incrementally moves to the top.
Also, if I link to new pages in any browser it's as if the back button is pressed and i will eventually end up at the homepage of my browser.
This anomoly happens wether I use the Logitech Wireless Optical or the standard apple mouse.
Upon reboot it goes away but eventually happens again. usually in about 15 minutes.
Any ideas?

Howdy,
Thanks for using macosx.com's free tech support.
Does your Logitec mouse have a scroll wheel on it? When it starts this automated "scroll up" process, if you use the wheel to scroll down, will it over-ride it scrolling up through the menu items?
I'd also try this on the keyboard, you could very well have a keyboard issue as well. It is probably not a mouse hardware issue, as you have ruled that out. But, it could be a mouse software issue.
Do you have another keyboard to test out if it is a keyboard issue. That would rule out all hardware possibilities.
Try hitting the up arrow key board, maybe it is "stuck".
Let me know either way so I can help further.

I'll try another keyboard. However, i can over-ride the upward cursor movement. I can...using the down arrow, the mouse wheel, and the scroll buttons. But, as soon as I stop the override it continues back upward. Now here's an odd bit of info - if i do the wheel click, it stops for a while. It does act as though an up key is stuck. I've also noted that this is now accompanied with erratic mouse movements.
Fun stuff eh?

Does this happen if you plug the mouse into the keyboard or the machine's USB port?
If it does, I would Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in the Utility folder. Then boot off the OS CD and open Disk Utility under the Installer Menu and Repair Disk.
If this doesn't corretc the problem, I would use the 10.3.8 Combo Update and reinstall, just using the upgrade option fore the install.
If after that the problem is still there, it would be time to call Apple.
