Knowledge Level: I'm New!

Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: global village teleport gold IIv
Model: 6200CD powerPC
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8

Description:
I want to install a faster modem on my Macintosh Performa 6200CD PowerPC, external or internal - 33.6 or greater
If I install a external modem do I have remove the old internal Global village Teleport Gold IIv modem (14.4)?
I assume removal of this internal modem is only a matter openning up the computer back and removing the modem from the communication slot.
What replacement modem would you suggest external or internal with the same capability only faster?
Where could I purchase this modem and how much can I expect to pay?
Bob

go with an external modem, more choices and less hassle then internal modems.

You MUST remove the internal modem before the Mac logic board will look for the modem port (which you may need to remove the plastic cover from by prying off with a small nailfile/etc..). If there is something in the Comm Slot, the computer won't recognize a modem on that modem port. simply pop the top and remove the card from the comm slot. rmember to remove all the associated GV control panels and extensions because you will not need them any more.

I strongly suggest the Supra Express series. MacWarehouse sells them for around $90. excellent equipment. You must make sure that your provider has the SAME type of modem protocol as the modem you are considering purchasing.
