Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Power Mac 8600/300
RAM: 48meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8

Description:
The date & time clock seems to have disappeared from the menubar. I have tried to reset it using the Date & Time control panel, but this does not appear to work. I have also tried trashing the Date & Time preference file, resetting via the Date & Time control panel, and then restarting the computer, but this does not work either.

When I am resetting the clock, I get a dialog box, which states, "the menubar clock software is not currently active. Changes will take place on restart". I get this dialog even when the control panel shows that the clock is supposedly on already.

There is probably a simple solution, and I am most likely overlooking the obvious, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi James, and welcome to NoWonder Mac support!

My first guess is that you have some sort of extensions conflict. Something else is preventing the clock to appear. First test to disable third party extensions/control panels, expecially those that makes changes to the menubar. Do you have Conflict Catcher installed? Some older versions of that application conflicts with the menubar clock.

Good luck!
