DESCRIPTION:

I am running W98 and a HP 693C printer..recently my system freezes when, in order to print, I go to FILE-PRINT to HP screen to PROPERTIES where I change print from Econo-Fast to either Normal or Best..I click OK ...the whole system freezes up...control, alt, delete is the only way to get going again...HOWEVER...if, in order to print, I click the Printer Icon..everything is fine..or if I click the Printer ICON, and, while its printing, I go to FILE, PRINT, etc and change the print settings, it will continue in the new setting..I've deleted the printer and re-installed...same thing..Is this one of those "just because" things..or is there a fix...Thanks for any assistance.....

Hello Dave
Here's what i may suggest
1-
Sometimes when there's to much temporary files, printing problem may occur.
Let me explain
windows 95-98 or 3.1 makes temp files acting as memory buffer, or helping out the os to finish it task. Sometime a application also makes temp files but does not clear by itself.
Look for .tmp files under windows\temp
c:\temp
''depending on how your pc is set-up''

2-
On certain hp product, if you have a postscrip driver installed. It may hang your printer. Meaning that you may have to close printer and retry your printing.
I have observed this situation on novell network and if you use monotype type font.
''how do i know if i have this font''?
look under control panel(start-setting-ctrlpanel-font icon).it should be in this environnement.

3-Related to font
on win95 (first release), there's been issue on font limitation, if you have over 700 you may have probleme.

Good luck ....keep me inform
