Description:
I have Norton Utilities 4.0 for the Mac and have updated to 4.0.1 successfully. So the other day on shut down Norton was doing its scan when I got a dialog box :

Norton File Saver has detected a problem on "Macintosh HD." There is damage to the Volume Bit Map. You can use Norton Disk Doctor to repair the disk.

Okay, so that sounds fairly simple. I insert NU CD in the drive and restart by holding down the "c" key. I get startup with the NU for the Mac background on the screen. The NU CD icon and others are visible. However I also get another dialog box saying:

The software needed to use the device "E-USB Bridge" cannot be found. Please refer to the device documentation to install the necessary software.

I cannot go any farther. I am forced to quit. So I do. Then I restart from the iMac System. Using Find File, I check for E-USB Bridge. It is not found.

I think I've accurately described the problem. Now what do I do? What is the E-USB Bridge? How do I run NDD to correct the Volume Bit Map? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Dale,

In order to boot your iMac, you need a CD-ROM which has USB drivers on it. I think the Norton Utilities version you need is 4.03. You should be able to get
this from Symantec. Meanwhile, I suggest that you use Apple's own Disk First
Aid to fix your disk problems; it should be on your system software CD-ROM.

Good luck,
