KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Beginner

PROBLEM: Combination
COMPUTER TYPE: clone/ASUS 440 BX board
MODEL: P2 333 / single processor on a dual board
RAM: 65+
OS VERSION: Windows NT 4
SERVICE PACK: none installed yet

DESCRIPTION:

12 GB Quantam Bigfoot drive....WinNT 4....when installing NT4
I can only get NT to recognize a 8GB partion size as a
maximum....even though using the F8 to format the drive
with the emergency diskto erase it shows the full 12 GB.
Is the problem with NT?
Does the service pack 3 effect it?
It seems that the problem is in the initial install?
Do I have to use Partition Magic?
As an alternative.... can I set up the first 4 GB as a FAT
partition....then have NT recognize it in that way......

Thanks....any help would be appreciated.

Harry,

I "believe" the following is what is going on:

Windows NT will only install on a partitioned drive up to 4096MB (4Gig). After you've installed NT, you can run "Disk Administrator" and set it to recognize your entire hard drive a one drive. Service pack 3 does not affect this in any way. This is an inherent limitation in Windows NT4.

As far a installing NT on a FAT partition (with the data on NTFS), many NT training guides actually recommend this.

I hope this helps clear some of the confusion, just let us know if we can be of more help in the future.

And, thanks for using No Wonder!
