Hello Barb and Welcome to No Wonder!
What you need to download depends on what sort of files they are. Cartoons might have an extension such as .jpg, .gif, .bmp or several other. They should all be able to open within PictureViewer which is a part of QuickTime 3.0. Music files could end with something like .midi, .mp3, .wav, .ra, .rm, .ram or several others. Many of these can be opened using QuickTime's MoviePlayer, some might need RealPlayer <.ra, .rm, .ram>, others might need SoundApp PPC.
You can go to
http://www.shareware.com to download free copies of all of the applications above if you are lacking any of them. Just follow the instructions that come with the software, the installers should put everything where it's needed for you, if it asks you where to keep it you can choose anywhere that's most convienent for you.
You didn't mention what browser you are using but you should be able to drag and drop most any graphic attachment onto an open browser window to view. Your musical attachments might also work that way, depending on the plugins that you have installed.
I know this all must sound really vague and confusing since you are new. If you want to give me more specific info on an attachment that you can't open, you can write directly to me. Just give me the full file name
, the name and version number of your email client, the name and version number of your browswer. Then I can walk you through the steps of opening that one specific file.
