I'm trying to move a a number of MS Works documents over to OSX. The files open but are filled with junk characters. Is there a way to open these files in MS Office 2004(OSX version)? How do I transfer them over?

Jaggyone,

could you specify from where to where you want to transfer your docs.

The MS Works files were moved from a Windows PC to an Apple G5. So I am now interested in being able to open them in MS Word on the G5.

Jaggyone,

usually when I correspond with people using PCs, I don't have any problems opening their Word-attachments in e-mails using MS word 2004 (OS X version). Also there are no problems when I save the documents to my disk before opening them.
Could you tell me in which application the files open? I f the application is NOT Word this could explain the "junk" characters. I would then try starting Word 2004 (OS X version) and open my documents with the Open command, thus forcing them to open in the correct application.
You can get more information here: http://images.apple.com/macosx/pdf/P...B_10242003.pdf which explains about Windows compatibility. Word docs should be fully compatible according to this document.

Thanks Allan,

In the end, I opened the files using the windows version of Word and saving in doc format. That solved my problem. It's unfortunate that Microsoft does not make Works converters for the Mac version of Word.
