I have OS 8.5. I noticed when I finished installing it that under "about this computer" in the apple menu, the system now takes up 20+ mb. Is this at all normal? How can I trim down my system?

Hi Evan and welcome to No Wonder!

This is normal.
Open the Memory control panel and click on the default button and make sure virtual memory is on.

Move unwanted extensions like QuickDraw 3D, Location Manager, Sharing extensions, web sharing, speech, printer extensions and unneeded fonts to their respective "disabled" folders.

Cheers
Andy Mitchell
