I basically have two questions

#1 I have OS 9.2 with the option of switching the computer over to OS X.1. Should I do this? I have heard there were problems with the conversion.

#2 I am trying to purchase a new printer but need something compatible. I want a printer that printers, scans, and that makes copies. I have looked at a few HP models online. Would they be compatible with my computer?

Thanks.

Hi Lori

What model Mac do you have?
How much memory is installed?

If you do go to OS X, you should go to 10.2 (Jaguar) and not any older system.

There's no problem with going to OS X, depending on your machine and memory installed.

You can browse through Apple's product page for printers. This page list multifunction printers;

I have an iMac that came with 9.2.2 with the ability to switch to OS 10.1. The computer has 256 MB of memory.

How would I go to 10.2 since 10.1 is the one available on the machine? Will I have enough memory with 256 MB?

Thanks again.

Lori

You should upgrade the memory to at leats 512MB to run OS X. You can run with 256MB, but will run much better with more memory.

10.2 is called Jaguar and you would have to buy it retail. There is no free upgrade to 10.2 from a lower system. 10.3 and 10.4 (newest) are also available now, and all have to be bought. Free upgrades are from 10.2 to 10.2.8 for the 10.2 system, etc.

The 10.1 system was more like a Beta system. I didn't use OS X full time until 10.2 was released.
