My hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall os x 10.1 because I no longer have my panther disks...long story. Anyway, I bought 10.4 Tiger, however, it seems to be an update disk and it's asking me for 10.3 to be installed prior to 10.4. Is this the case with all 10.4 installation disks or am I using one that is solely an UPDATE?
If I buy a copy of Panther can I install it onto my exisiting 10.1 os?
Thanks

An OS X upgrade disk will show the work Upgrade on the disk label, and you don't pay more than about $20 for that disk.
I think the situation is - that Tiger cannot upgrade 10.1, but you will have other options.
When you get to the screen where you select the install drive, you should click the option button, and choose the Archive & Install option. That should allow you to install tiger.

Hey...
I tried that, however, it wouldn't allow me to do it. The option didn't come up either. The disk I have reads: Tiger 10.4 dvd upgrade. I'm not sure if that means anything. Could I be missing a disk?

Yes, you are missing a disk (or more). You can't use the Tiger upgrade unless you have a system that you can upgrade from... Such as Panther. If your Panther installer is gone, then you'll have to purchase the Tiger full install.
