Hello--

Earlier, while installing the latest Palm update, I inadvertantly powerd down during installation onmy Mac runnig 10.2.8; later I installed again fine, but now my mac hangs on the basic apple icon at intro and I don't get the little startup dial at all underneath it anymore...just the apple itself staring at me.

I can startup from other drives and partitions, but not from that system any longer.

Also: I tried to run disk utitlity from the system drive but it wouldn't open, just said "error code -1000"

This apparently has something to do with icons....how can I fix it?

Thanks,

JR

J.,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. Locate the 10.2 install CD and start up the computer using that CD.

Do not click on the installer screen. Instead, go to the Installer menu and select Disk Utility. Click on your hard drive icon at the left, then click on Repair Disk.

Watch the activity screen. If it does any repairs, you will need to click on the Repair Disk button again. The object is to have it find and repair all the problems. You may need to click on that button three or four times in order to get no references to repairs made.

Once done, click on repair permissions.
Now quit Disk Utility and restart the computer.
Give it a test run.

Let me know if you need further assistance and thank you for using MacOSX.com !
