I have a MDD G4 that was originally a dual 867. I got this off someone who had overclocked it to run as a dual 1gig after he noticed the processors were rated for 933mhz. I was told it had run continuosly for 3 years as a web server when it shut down on him one day. It has 2 512mb sticks of PC2700 ram installed because a modification had to be made to the motherboard to increse the bus speed to 167mhz. When I received it, it would not turn on. There was power to the motherboard and the fans spun, but nothing else, no startup sound or anything. I got a new dual 1gig processor that was from a dual G4 Xserve and installed it with the hopes the it was the processor that was no good. I pushed the power button and got 3 tones. I think that means the memory is no good but I'm not sure. I had removed the battery and left it out for a day or so (it has worked for me in the past), and I also pressed the CUDA button. Actually I pressed the button more than once (is that really bad?). Any suggestions on what may be the problem would be greatly appreciated. I know overclocking voids any type of warrantee, but considering it ran for 3 years I have to think it was done right.

Hi Bill

The three beeps at startup indicates bad memory, but the symptoms you descibe indicate a bad backup battery. I would try putting a new battery in first.

Pressing the CUDA button more than once can damage the chip.
