when in desktop i altered the colour settings to 16 bit
and the page became so big that i cannot get to the apply
ok buttons on the bottom of the settings page.
any help would be appreciated ta nigel.

Before I can accurately diagnose your problem i do need to know the following things: Your computer type, model, RAM, OS version, and whether/which service packs have been installed (pretty much everything that was asked before =).
