I just installed the above drive into my PowerMac QuickSilver G4. My CPU Speed is 733MHz. My memory is 640 MB and my Bus Speed is 133 MHz. I am running OS X 10.3.9.

My computer crashes everytime I try to burn something on the new drive. I also notice more frequent crashes ever since I installed the new drive that result in long black bars of DOS-esque text running down the left side of my screen. It does this when I burn a DVD and also just randomly throughout the omputer being on.

I ran a Disk Utility Repair and everythng checked out.

I did a System Profile check on the drive and I noticed when it came to Disc Burning, it said "Not Supported".

Is this my problem?

Is there some additional software I need with my new drive?

I just installed it and turned on my computer and tried burning and opening up DVD's. Was I supposed to run something else onto the new drive?

I am at a loss? Please help

Christopher, welcome on macosx.com

This burner needs PatchBurn
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25100
to be recognised by your Mac

Some other flash the firmware of the 109...when the drive was connected to a PC

Regards
Philippe

After I sent this message, I found the PatchBurn and installed it. I restarted, then proceeded to burn a DVD. It crashed again right at the end of the burn. Also, my computer still crashes randomly like never before.

What else can I do?

Christopher,
(1) which software do you use to burn ? Finder ? DU ? Toast ?
(2) you repaired permissions, right ?
(3) how do you installed the drive ? in Slave mode ? Jumpers are ok ?

Philippe
