Hi!
I'm guessing this is a hardware problem. My G4/500 has been sitting in the closet for over a year. When I put it there, it functioned perfectly.
The other day, I pulled it out of the closet and tried to use it. It won't start. No chime. No lights. No nothing.
After scouring your site and Apple's knowledge base, I tried resetting the PMU, to no avail.
Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot the problem? My AppleCare warranty expired 2 months ago, so they were not able to help me without charging.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Mark, my name is Dale, I'll try to answer your questions.
You know about the reset button on the back, between the external video and modem ports.
Push that once.
Make sure the main battery is seated in place. Press the button on the battery, Any lights? If no lights at all, then you may not be able to get this to charge again, and require replacing the battery. The best way to find out if you can still do anything with this powerbook, is to find a known good main battery and try power with that battery in place.
But try to charge the battery. If you have one of the old round power adapters, then plug that in, and leave it alone for an hour or two, then check the battery for any lights. If still nothing, then you don't have much else to do. If you get lights, (or if you have one on the newer square white adapters), then try the power button now. Any response? be sure to try the caps lock, or the num lock keys for any lights.
Oh yes, with the white adapter, you should get a light at the connector where it plugs into the powerbook. Anything? normal is green for a few seconds, then yellow/amber - indicating charging. That does not indicate a good battery, just normal charging.
Have you got any lights or any other sounds up to this point?

Dale,
Thanks for your prompt response.
I have another known, working Ti PB G4. In the working G4, the battery from the "broken" G4 will charge. The same battery in the "broken" G4 does not charge.
The power supply from the "broken" G4 works with the working G4; the battery from the "broken" G4 works with the working G4.
Pushing the "reset" button on the back of the computer appears to have done nothing.
With the little that we know now, could the "PMU" daughter card have died? The battery was fully charged when the computer was placed in the closet. Could its discharging into the PMU have somehow broken the PMU?
At this point, there are still no lights, no chimes, no nothing.
Again, I appreciate the time you're taking to assist me, Dale!

sure, the PMU card is a possibility. The board that your power adapter plugs into, is also another possible failure. I would take this G4 to a service center somewhere, and have it checked out a little more.

Ok. I was afraid it was coming to that.
Thanks, again, for your time and assistance!
