TICKET ARCHIVE -> Printing to Photosmart 7350 From Osx Tiger Via Wireless Print Server
jeffrey62 - Jun 1, 2005 - 8:29 pm
Hello,
I have installed a USB wireless printer server on my network containing a G4 running OSX 10.4 Tiger and a P4 running Windows XP. The printer is printing out fonts gibberish from the G4. I do have the latest Photosmart 7350 printer driver on the G4. Normally fonts printing out gibberish would suggest wrong printer driver. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Barrie Beckman

Hi Barrie,
First try to connect the printer via USB to your computer and see if it works. This could either a driver or a printer server problem.
Let me know if you need more information.

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your reply. Everthing worked fine before using the print server. What do you think the problem is, if it is the print server? Thanks, Barrie

Hi Barrie,
Could you tell me the model of your printer server and how you connect to it (IP printing, AppleTalk, SAMBA, etc).
Look forward to hear from you.

Hello Charlie,
Once again, thanks for your patience.
The model of the printer server is Airlink101 APSUSB201W. It is connected via AppleTalk from the Mac. It prints, but the fonts are gibberish. Thanks, Barrie

Hi Barrie,
AppleTalk is a very old protocol and probably won't be supported for much longer. You should try to set up the printer via IP printing and that should solve your problem. Consult the manual if you don't know how to do it.
If you *really* want to make this work over AppleTalk, when setting up the printer in OS X, choose the driver for "Color LaserWriter". It might work this way, too. But IP printing would be a little faster and more future-proof.
Cheers,
Charlie

Hello Charlie,
I am using OSX Tiger and I can't see any option for using IP printing or LPR printing in Tiger. Also what was called Rendezvous in previous versions of OSX has been renamed Bonjour. I have tried your above suggestion and it does not want to work. So I am going to give it up. Back to the drawing board! Thanks for your help Charlie, I appreciate it. Barrie Beckman

Hi Barrie,
If you open Printer Setup Utility, click on More Printers -> Advanced. All the printing protocols that exist are in there.
If you want to use Bonjour, then you should get an Airport Express. I have one, and printing to my Epson inkjet printer is as easy as it can be.
Cheers,
Charlie
