I am having trouble with quicktime. I accidentally deleted it, so I went to the quicktime page and tried to re-download it. After I download it, it won't let me install it because it says I already have a newer version present on my computer, but I can't find it on my computer anywhere. All I can find is the quicktime plug-in and the cache, but I can't find the player anywhere. I don't know what to do because it won't let me install quicktime, but I also can't find the player, so it seems like I'm stuck without quicktime. I will definitely appreciate the help.

Hi,
Try these...

1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).

2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.

3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.

Bests,

peter

Okay,
I am still having trouble. I have now deleted everything that even has the word quicktime off of my computer. I went to the library and made sure to delete the receipt. Still when I try to install quicktime it tells me that I already have a newer version present on my computer. Is there anything else I can do? I appreciate the help.

In the Finder go to File>Find>select Kind-Any,Last Opened=Any Date>Type in Quicktime. Select files you think are part of Quicktime. Be in the look out for folders and plist and preferences files in the Other section. Drag them all to the thrash.
Repair Permissions, Restart and try the steps in my first post.
