Although a new Mac user myself, I am helping a couple of friends with basic Mac set up issues and questions. To help with this, I wondered if there was anything simple and easy to use to enable me to take remote control of their desktop to help solve thier problems! I have used VNC on PCs before, but wondered if there was anything you advised for Mac - ideally free/shareware?

Hi Mark

For free, put OSXvnc on your friends machines;

and you can use Chicken of the VNC on yours:

Thanks Bobw,

I have installed on both machines as you suggest, and it works great - both computers are connected to the same wirless broadband router in my study at home.

However, when my friend takes his macbook home with him, how can i get this connection? With them being in the same room, it picks up the connection automatically. Can I use this online to take remote control of another mac that is not local to my own. Please assume stupidity on my part by the way!

Thanks,

Mark

Outside your network, you have to open the prot on your router for it to work accross the net. Port 5900. Your router will have setup instructions for port forwarding.

For your friends machine, you need to open the port on his route or firewall.
