Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Power Computing
Model: PowerTowerPro250
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
CPU began hanging on restart. Monitor blacked out, no restart chimes, CPU continues runing but will not boot immediately. Sometimes will delay a few seconds to several minutes. If powered down, it can usually be started by resetting CUDA but not always. Battery is good, software and extensions seem fine once running. I've tried everything I know to narrow the problem- switching hard drives (I have two), low-level reformatting, reinstalling older 8.0 system. Still it hangs from time to time without a real clear pattern of cause. I'm suspecting more and more a defect or loose coonection in the motherboard.I'd appreciate any clues on how to remedy- I'm still under warranty but would like to get this nailed down closer before shipping for repairs.

Hello Thomas and Welcome to No Wonder!

I'd recommend changing your battery, and checking all of your connections inside, but this would void your warranty. So instead I'm going to tell you to give them a call and find out what needs to be done in order to get it repaired under your warranty.

You should also try running a utility that will check the integrity of your memory and cache card. Newer Technologies has some freebies that can be found here:

Good Luck, and let me know how it turns out,
