After having had very few problems with Safari, I loaded Tiger and suddenly I am having numerous problems wiht secure sites. IN particular, I can no longer access webmail pages or accounts I have set up at various places.
I am using a 12" 1 Ghz Powerbook with no unusual hardware configuration or software issues.
Again, there were no problems until I loaded Tiger.

Darryl,
My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. did you replace the x509 Anchors file (in /System/Library/Keychains/)?
If not go here:
http://homepage.mac.com/val83/
Download the file and trash your file, replacing it with the new one.
Now give it a try.

after two tries...it still does not work. What am I doing wrong?

Darryl,
Did you install the latest Java?
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html
While it says for 10.3.9, it will install on Tiger.
If you continue to have trouble, the next thing to do is an Archive and Preserve install of Tiger. This will keep all your applications and documents untouched, yet install a fresh system and Safari.

Cheryl,
I downloaded the file you recommended and was unable to load it. The error message reads, "You cannot install Java Update for Mac OS X v1.3.9 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." I have just over 9GB of free space.

Darryl,
Since I had given you that link, Apple has changed the downloads. There is a different update to Java here:

We really have to stop meeting like this. I downloaded from the new link. It now says, "You can not install Java 1.4.2 Update 2 package on this volume. The volume does not contain a version of Java that needs updating."

Darryl,
My husband is starting to get suspicious. :-)
Okay, now we know that your Java is all up to date.
Just to double check, go to the Safari menu and select Preferences. Click on the Security icon, then check what you have set for cookies. It should be set to Only from sites you navigate. Also, all the Java boxes should be checked.
Now quit Safari, then go to your Home folder>Library>Preferences.
Trash the com.apple.safari.plist
Empty the trash, then give Safari a try.
When you updated to Tiger, how did you update - Update, archive or clean install?

It did not work. I may have simply updated. I know I did not archive and I usually do not do a clean install...until I break something....maybe it is time for a clean install?
Cheryl - May 8, 2005 - 10:15 pm
Darryl,
I suggest you do an Archive and Preserve install. This will keep all your applications and documents in place.
Start up from your Mac OS X 10.4
Select your language. The Welcome to the Mac OS X Installer window appears.
Click Continue. The Important Information window appears.
After reading or printing the information, click Continue. The Software License Agreement window appears.
After reading or printing the information, click Continue.
An agreement sheet appears. If you agree with the license agreement, click Agree. The Select a Destination window appears.
Click the volume that you wish to install to.
Click Options. The installation options sheet appears.
Select Archive and Install.
Select the volume which already has Mac OS X installed.
You should also select Preserve Users and Network Settings, to preserve network and Home directory settings.
Click OK.
Click Continue to begin the installation.

Haven't had a chance to yet. Been using Firefox, but I plan to do it this weekend when I can afford to shut down the machine for a while.
