Model: performa 6400/180
RAM: 48meg

OS Version: System 7.5.2

Description:
I have recently purchased a Umax Astra 600S scanner for my Performa 6400/180. I hooked up the SCSI cables connecting the scanner and the Performa just as instructed in the manual. I then turn on the scanner and all seems well. But when I turn on the Performa, I just get a blank screen. I can still move the mouse but nothing else happens. When I turn off the scanner, however, the Performa starts up as it normally would. What is wrong? The scanner is unlocked and the SCSI ID is set on 5.

Edward,
Hi, my name is Ed. I'm a No Wonder volunteer and will try to answer your question. My email address is
I hate to ask these obvious questions, but ...
- Are you sure there is no duplication in the SCSI ID# with another SCSI device?
- Is the scanner properly terminated?
Also, many scanners like to be the first device in the SCSI chain, right next to the CPU. Try disconnecting any other external SCSI devices to see if that helps.
Good luck,
ed
