Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Apple/HP/Iomega/CSC
Model: Performa6300
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Charger
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:

I have the following connected and in this order:

Jaz connected to Performa 6300 (64 mg RAM)
Zip next (connected to the Jaz)
Tape drive next (Model 4586NP Auto Loader Tape Drive)
HP Scanner (3C) [Terminated]
I don't have a SCSI ID conflict.

My scanner works fine if connect directly to the computer.
The order given above works fine, except my scanner isn't
recognized in the configuration given.
I've tried some other "orders" with no change - probably not
all possible arrangements.
Am I missing something? The Jaz booklet recommends that it
be first in line.

Can you help?
I can't see connecting/reconnecting any time I need my
scanner.

Incidentally, this is a personal setup which I use as a
teacher and for a newsletter
that my wife publishes bi-monthly.
The problem came to light when I got my computer back from
Custom Computer (Apple authorized dealer) after
they replaced my hard drive and installed OS 8.1.

Hi welcome to Nowonder

The Scanners cause the biggest conflict with other drivers. You may want to try turning off other driver extensions to see if it works. I have a CDR and a scanner and had to set up two extensions one for the scanner and one for the CDR otherwise the scanner would not be recognize. It is a pain to have to restart to use one or the other, but only way possible in my case. I use the base extensions in both cases then just added either the scanner or the CDR and necessary software. Best regards sharona@nowonder
