Will the Sims 2 work on my emac G4?
I understand that the sims 2 for mac has a lot of new requirments to play it. And if it works on my computer will I need anything else besides the game to play it?
Thankyou, Julie

Sims2 System Requirements:

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.8 or later
CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5
CPU Speed: 1.2GHz or faster
Memory: 256 MB or higher
Hard Disk Space: 3GB free disk space
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 9000 or better
Video Card (NVidia): GeForce FX5200 or better
Video Memory (VRam): 32 MB or higher
Media Required: DVD Drive

So, now problem on eMac with a 64Mb-video 9600 card

However, 256Mb RAM is a -very, very- minimum. 512 Mb will be a +

Dear Phil,
I am somewhat confused by what you have said, is the word "now" supposed to be "no"? On my emac do I have a 64Mb-video 9600 card, or do I have to buy one? Also, what do you suppose that I could do about the 256Mb RAM being very minimum, how would I get 512 Mb? Could you explain the quality of using the game on my computer system as it is now? And, could you explain if I made ajustments to the emac how the quality would compare?

Thankyou for your time,
Julie

I can give you a comparison.
When I bought the Sims 1, my daughter's old G3 fits the minimum requirements for the game. They play it fine, sometimes (complex houses, with many items..) it is sometimes choppy.
We add two add-ons, especially the 'Sims on Vacation', they see some slowness..oh, not very important, but the G3 suffers in certain circumstances.
Next, my daugther make the comparison with the same game on a friend's G3 with 512 Mb (compared to my 256 Mb), with the same add-ons: on this "boosted" machine, the game was more fluid, esay to use, ...

At this moment, I confess, I decide to buy a GameCube for gaming (well, a second-hand one): games prices are the same, the GC is nearly a small G3 but only dedicated to games. The Urbz (Sims in the city) is so fluid, so quick on this 80$ machine, that I cannot imagine to install anymore games on my G3 or G5 !

So I'm quite sure the Sims 2 works fine on the eMac with 256 Mb Ram: just buy it and do not change/add anything to your machine. Do not buy extra RAM only for one particular game.
But accept that, sometimes, in heavy complex situations, the game will be a little bit choppy.

I use Macs for more than 10 years. Macs are great, are wonderfull in home usage and great in video/sound editing.
But Macs are not ideal machines for gaming. For gaming, GameCube, Xbox or other PS are better -with no comparison at all-

Phil
