TICKET ARCHIVE -> Slow Internet Speed On Pb12"

hi. i got meself a new pb 12", 512mb, 80gb, sd, tiger. and now i've come to realize that my internet speed has dropped tremendeously. logging to a website n having it to load takes many2x minutes and at times, even fail to load. tried it back on my dell notebook and the internet speed is normal (fast). would appreciate if anyone could provide a lead on how to improve my pb internet speed. cheers.

Hello Pang Yen,

Which version of OS X are you running? I'd make sure that you are using 10.4.2.

Also have you tried using the permissions repair in Disk Utility?

hi. tq for helping. using 10.4.2. what does disk utility permission repair do? what will it try to correct/improve. pardon my asking as this is my first brave attempt at using/owning a mac after a decade of wintel. appreciate ur help.

Hi Pang Yen,

Repairing permissions sets the file access permissions on all the files on your hard drive, according to the original installation instructions. It sometimes fixes hard-to-diagnose problems, and is a good thing to do for maintenance.

It seems likely that there is a problem with your Network settings. How are you accessing the internet on your PowerBook? Perhaps there is a setting in your Network system preferences that is causing the slow down. Is it possible that you have an incorrect value in your DNS server field?

had probl logging onto the site. apologies. what would be a normal network setting be like? am accessing net from pb via adsl modem/router. the dns server field i believe i set to auto detech. will review n reply back.
