Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PowerMac G3 233 desktop
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
After the startup sequence and all my extensions are loaded but before any icons appear on my desktop, there is a long delay (30 sec or more) where I have control of my cursor, but it moves slowly, kind of jump-skipping as I move it across the screen. I thought it might be extension related but it still happens with all extensions off, again happening right before the desktop icons would appear. I've rebuilt the desktop and zapped the pram and checked the hard disk with disk first aid and tech tool (free version), without any luck. Everything checks out OK. Any suggestions? Thanks.

FRank,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. I do suggest you get a copy of Norton Utilities or TEchToolPro2 or MacMedic and run the disk doctor. It will find the problem and fix it. They are a better and stronger first aid utility.

I do have another suggestion you can try in the meantime. Go into your system folder, preference folder and trash the finder preferences. Now restart the computer then empty the trash.
Keep me posted.
Cheryl
