Description:
The net guru in the school district where I work is saying that Eudora Light is not a secure mail system for our admin office. He wants to remove Eudora which I love and replace it with that Microsoft Mail app, Outlook, I think it is. Is Eudora that unsecure on a network?, and my experience with Microsoft's Mail from a few years back was hideous...what is the current feeling about this new Mail software?
Thanks for your past help, and for taking the time to read this!

Grrr.
I really HATE people like your "guru".
They kill quality, and they are unthinking morons. Those types are very hard to influence, except by subtle steering.
I had some difficulty in locating a simple statement about comparative security, but I'm sure this dope has no evidence, just an urge to conform.
But here's a strong opening salvo, an article from the NYTimes this Summer which points out a severe security hole in Outlook Express which doesn't affect Eudora.

"Oh mr. net guru? I heard what you said before about security, but look what it says here. Could you tell me where I can read what you've based you opinions on?"
My sad point: most people DON'T reason, and the worst are arrogant about their unreasoning ignorance. If this gentle missive isn't enough for him to share evidence of his thinking with you, then I ask you, how can you expect to convince him of anything?
And a final snotty point on my part: what kind of double-O corporate spy information is on your admin office's system, such that "security" is at issue? The obscurity of an uninteresting target IS security, and the features of both of these programs have nothing, NOTHING to do with whether or not a site is secure. That requires firewalls, and administrators who religiously keep up with online security forums. This person is acting doltish about the one security feature he is willing to consider, because he is hiding his shame that he can actually do a half-way decent job. Security worth doing is difficult, and I think you've touched a sore spot.
So if he can't give you a point-for-point account of the strengths of Outlook Express security features over Eudora (Light or Pro), then I assure you that any number of fourteen year-olds have already danced through the system, changing their schedules and grades.
