Type 1 errors are the cousin of Type 11 errors in previous Mac OS systems. They either result because of a memory issue or extension conflict. Here is some advice that may help:

1. Normally your Disk Cache should be 1024k for every 32mb you have installed. MacOS 8 is sensitive to this. Unforunately, Photoshop does not like it set that high. Drop this down to 96K and see what happens. You may need to contact Adobe to see what they recommend under MacOS 8.

2. Turn off Virtual Memory. Photoshop's uses it's own kind of VM and doesn't like it when you have Apple's turned on.

3. Turn off Protection in your General Controls.

4. As a test, run Photoshop with System Only Extensions. If it works fine, then you have an extension conflict with another application. You will have to conduct tests or use Conflict Catcher to find the culprit.

5. Reinstall the application with all extensions, except Apple cd-rom, turn off. It could be that it's conflicting with an Apple Extension that you had on when it was installed.

6. After zapping your PRAM, rebuild your desktop and trash your Finder Pref and Photoshop Preference files. These are located in the Preferences folder. When you trash the Finder Prefs file, make sure you restart BEFORE emptying the trash.

7. Install the lastest update to Photoshop, which is 4.0.1. Also allocate memory to the program itself under Get Info.
