Mi iMac, OS 9, is 4 years old. I used to reach links like AOL travel maps and frontispiece news stories, but not in several months. I have been hesitant to switch to OS X, but if I did, would the unattainable become attainable?

I sought to enlist a local helper who made housecalls but have not been able to locate one. Suggestions? Contact local high school or college?

Have you tried using a different Web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to find your desired information on the Internet?

Dear Ben R.,
Thanks for helping! Sometimes Internet Explorer does help. It got me here just now, in fact, when the web browser couldn't. Netscape, the version I have, usually doesn't add anything. Is this a memory problem? Would OS X make a difference? Do I need a housecall?

A couple ideas...

One is to ditch AOL. An upgrade to OS X can help you make the transition because OS X comes with great email, address book, and Web browser applications. AOL produces a Service Assistant utility that can transfer your AOL data to these applications so you don't have to be constrained by the limited feature set built into AOL.

Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) would be a worthwhile investment (for only $50 from Other World Computing) - http://www.macsales.com/

Dear Ben,

Thank you for those concrete ideas. I'll proceed with them shortly.
