I have been having a problem with Safari 2.0.2 so I decided to go back to a previous version.
I had already trashed my Safari 2.0.2 and while I was looking for an older version on the Apple site I noticed there was a new upgrade to Tiger 10.4.3.
I downloaded it and commenced my search and found a 1.2.0 version of Safari to download.
Unfortunately it would not allow me to load it so I decided to re-install the version I had before.
Here is where it gets scary, my system would not allow me to load that version either saying it required OS 10.4.2. I now have 10.4.3 installed so I'm guessing that's why it isn't letting me load it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm sorry, we need to be rather more drastic!
The problem is, that Safari isn't just the Safari you find in /Applications'. It's also a bunch of files you find in /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework . Whenever you upgrade Safari you usually also upgrade WebKit. Safari is actually "just" the user interface to WebKit. Other programs can use WebKit to render webpages. Programs like OmniWeb, Shiira and Apple Help use WebKit. So a Safari update is usually also an update of WebKit
You'll have to start all over with Tiger. You'll have to do an 'Archive and Install' and then apply the 10.4.3 update once again.
And I don't think you'll get 1.2.0 to work under Tiger. You could rename the Tiger Safari to Safari2 and then see if you can get 1.2.0 to work - but *DON'T* run the installer. Instead see if you can open the package and extract the Safari application so that you leave the Tiger WebKit all alone. Actually, I think that the Safari 1.2.0 installer will refuse to let you install 1.2.0, but even if it'll let you *DON'T* run it - you'll break the Tiger WebKit
Good Luck

Thanks Byjarne, at this point I would be happy just to get the recent version of Safari back onto my computer.
If I understand you correctly the first thing I need to do is an 'Archive and Install'.
I've never done one of those before is it easy to do.

Just pop the Tiger DVD into the drive and restart. When you try to install the older version, you'll be given some options. Follow the one that suit you best. The installer takes care of as much as it can and tells you what else you'll have to do to be up and running again.

Bjarne you said "When you try to install the older version, you'll be given some options."
Do you mean the older version of Tiger or Safari.

No on the install DVD you ought to have 10.4.0 (I suppose) but as you've upgraded to at least 10.4.2, the installation program will discover this fact and complain accordingly.
