I have OXS 10.2.8 and use Mail. I can place a graphic (my company logo) into my email signature and it shows for me, but for other users (on PCs) it shows up as a .tif attachment (and my graphic is a joeg file) and not in the signature. Can this be fixed? Thanks.

Make sure in Edit>Attachments, you check Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments. If that doesn't help, it may only depend on the email applications your PC colleagues are using.

Thanks, Ben. My version of Mail doesn't have that option (I have Jaguar). I plan on upgrading the Panther, which does. Hopefully that will solve the problem!

I'm pretty sure the choice is available in Jaguar, however I think it's in a different place. Perhaps check the File, Format, or Message menus instead. Look for anything to do with attachments.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything that has to do with attachments other than the attachment icon when composing an email. The only formatting type option I see is the rich vs. plain text choice. I had rich text chosen...

Sorry. You're right. Only in Panther+. Your problem is also discussed, with only questionable solution, at

The suggestion in Jaguar is to contact your ISP and make sure the images aren't being improperly filtered. You might also want to use only a three-character extension (.jpg) on your file so the PC users' systems don't have a problem with them (since Windows only allows up to three characters of extension).

Nice to know I am not alone! I have a PC user as well at home (yikes! ha) and we've tried everything. Hopefully once I upgrade the problem will be gone... or I may try Outlook Express (double yikes!).
Thanks for your help! Its much appreciated.

I am curious to know whether the .jpeg -> .jpg change makes any difference. Otherwise, I hope you're getting a good deal on Panther, as from Other World Computing .

I already use the .jpg extension and it comes over as a .tif for the PC users. So weird!
I saw Panther for $49. I'd go for Tiger but am afraid I'll have to upgrade my CS programs, too. I've seen some people say they're ok, others say they're not. I'd rather not go there!

Hi Ben, its me again! I upgraded to Panther today. My updated Mail program has the "always send windows friendly attachments" option and I have it checked, but it hasn't solved my problem. The logo (jpeg file) in my signature shows as an attachment to recipients, but it looks fine for me.. I tried it as a cut-and-paste out of Photoshop and also a drag-and-drop from the desktop into the signature composing window... My boyfriend is pretty programming savvy; he works on a PC has been trying to help me, but nothing we have tried--including doing it as an html page on my web server--has worked. I really want to make this happen--it kind of makes me look bad to my clients! Most of them are on PCs... any other ideas?
Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if the reality is that your PC-using clients are simply using email applications that don't support in-line viewing of attachments, such as the image in your signature. To test a related example, what do they see when you send any other JPEG or GIF image as an attachment? Not all email apps are alike; Mail just happens to be really good at presenting images in-line if you choose.

Yeah. We found some other listings online about the same problem--seems it just doesn't work from mac to pc. Thanks again for your help!
