I do not have Microsoft Word, or any of Microsoft's products. I have Mac OS X 10.2.8
Is there any way I can open up a .Doc file? Without Microsoft Products?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi and welcome to macosx.com

Yes, you can.

* OpenOffice 1.1 (in your case, because you're still on Jaguar) can do it
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/s...s_reqs_11.html

* NeoOfice is a Java based clone of OpenOffice
http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/index.php/NeoOffice

* Abiword is a Word compatible word processor
http://www.abisource.com/support/require/

On the other hand, now, most of the commercial Word competitor (NisusWriter, Mellel, MarinerWrite, ..) handle correctly Word documents, but they need Panther OS at least

Ah, yes, as another tech says to me: TexEdit can also open Word documents with formatting.

Sorry for forgetting this but I use NisusWriter as word processor and the spreadsheet feature of Openoffice (or Excel), so I never try to open .doc with textedit

Good luck
And thank you for using macosx.com

Philippe
