trash in OS9 and below had a fun little widget 'Oscar the Grouch'

Did that go away for OS X? Is it possible to make a new one?

I remember that Oscar the Grouch, but I don't think it has worked since long before OS 9 came around, but maybe you are right.
OS X does not show a trash icon in the same way as any older version of the MacOS, so that extension to make it work on older systems, can't work in OS X.
There may be something similar, that animates the trash can, and other system icons, and it would be one of the 'theming' apps. I tried a quick search, and couldn't find anything of that type. You might post on the Forums on this site, rather than the Tech Support area. More users will be able to see you question, and might have another answer.
